John 5:39-47 ALT
(39) "You search the Scriptures, because you think in them to be having eternal life, and these they are which testify concerning Me. (40) "And you are not willing to come to Me so that you shall have life. (41) "I do not receive glory from people. (42) "But I have known you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves. (43) "I have come in the Name of My Father, and you do not receive Me. If another comes in his own name, that one you will receive. (44) "How are you able to believe, while receiving glory from one another, and the glory that [is] from God alone you do not seek? (45) "Stop thinking that I will accuse you before the Father; the one accusing you is Moses, in whom you have hoped [or, have trusted in]. (46) "For if you were believing Moses, you would have been believing Me, for that one wrote concerning Me. (47) "But if the writings of that one you do not believe, how will you believe My sayings?"
John 5:39-47 BBE
(39) You make search in the holy Writings, in the belief that through them you get eternal life; and it is those Writings which give witness about me.
(40) And still you have no desire to come to me so that you may have life.
(41) I do not take honour from men;
(42) But I have knowledge of you that you have no love for God in your hearts.
(43) I have come in my Father's name, and your hearts are not open to me. If another comes with no other authority but himself, you will give him your approval.
(44) How is it possible for you to have faith while you take honour one from another and have no desire for the honour which comes from the only God?
(45) Put out of your minds the thought that I will say things against you to the Father: the one who says things against you is Moses, on whom you put your hopes.
(46) If you had belief in Moses you would have belief in me; for his writings are about me.
(47) If you have no belief in his writings, how will you have belief in my words?
John 5:39-47 NWT
39 "You are searching the Scriptures, because you think that by means of them you will have everlasting life; and these are the very ones that bear witness about me. 40 And yet you do not want to come to me that you may have life. 41 I do not accept glory from men, 42 but I well know that you do not have the love of God in you. 43 I have come in the name of my Father, but you do not receive me; if someone else arrived in his own name, you would receive that one. 44 How can you believe, when you are accepting glory from one another and you are not seeking the glory that is from the only God? 45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father; there is one that accuses you, Moses, in whom you have put your hope. 46 In fact, if you believed Moses you would believe me, for that one wrote about me. 47 But if you do not believe the writings of that one, how will you believe my sayings?"
John 5:39-47 CEV
(39) You search the Scriptures, because you think you will find eternal life in them. The Scriptures tell about me,
(40) but you refuse to come to me for eternal life.
(41) I don't care about human praise,
(42) but I do know that none of you love God.
(43) I have come with my Father's authority, and you have not welcomed me. But you will welcome people who come on their own.
(44) How could you possibly believe? You like to have your friends praise you, and you don't care about praise that the only God can give!
(45) Don't think that I will be the one to accuse you to the Father. You have put your hope in Moses, yet he is the very one who will accuse you.
(46) Moses wrote about me, and if you had believed Moses, you would have believed me.
(47) But if you don't believe what Moses wrote, how can you believe what I say?
John 5:39-47 GW
(39) You study the Scriptures in detail because you think you have the source of eternal life in them. These Scriptures testify on my behalf.
(40) Yet, you don't want to come to me to get eternal life.
(41) "I don't accept praise from humans.
(42) But I know what kind of people you are. You don't have any love for God.
(43) I have come with the authority my Father has given me, but you don't accept me. If someone else comes with his own authority, you will accept him.
(44) How can you believe when you accept each other's praise and don't look for the praise that comes from the only God?
(45) "Don't think that I will accuse you in the presence of the Father. Moses, the one you trust, is already accusing you.
(46) If you really believed Moses, you would believe me. Moses wrote about me.
(47) If you don't believe what Moses wrote, how will you ever believe what I say?"
John 5:39-47 GNB
(39) You study the Scriptures, because you think that in them you will find eternal life. And these very Scriptures speak about me!
(40) Yet you are not willing to come to me in order to have life.
(41) "I am not looking for human praise.
(42) But I know what kind of people you are, and I know that you have no love for God in your hearts.
(43) I have come with my Father's authority, but you have not received me; when, however, someone comes with his own authority, you will receive him.
(44) You like to receive praise from one another, but you do not try to win praise from the one who alone is God; how, then, can you believe me?
(45) Do not think, however, that I am the one who will accuse you to my Father. Moses, in whom you have put your hope, is the very one who will accuse you.
(46) If you had really believed Moses, you would have believed me, because he wrote about me.
(47) But since you do not believe what he wrote, how can you believe what I say?"

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
The Translations we quote are:
ALT - Analytical Literal Translation
ASV - American Standard Version (by the American revision committee in 1897).
Darby - 1889 Darby Bible
DRB - 1899 Douay-Rheims Bible
BBE - 1965 Bible in Basic English
LITV - Literal Translation of the Holy Bible
KJV - King James Version
MKJV - Modern King James Version
NWT - New World Translation
Webster - 1833 Webster Bible
RV - Revised Version
YLT - Young's Literal Translation
