Psalms 40:6-16 GNB
You do not want sacrifices and offerings; you do not ask for animals burned whole on the altar or for sacrifices to take away sins. Instead, you have given me ears to hear you, (7) and so I answered, "Here I am; your instructions for me are in the book of the Law. (8) How I love to do your will, my God! I keep your teaching in my heart." (9) In the assembly of all your people, LORD, I told the good news that you save us. You know that I will never stop telling it. (10) I have not kept the news of salvation to myself; I have always spoken of your faithfulness and help. In the assembly of all your people I have not been silent about your loyalty and constant love. (11) LORD, I know you will never stop being merciful to me. Your love and loyalty will always keep me safe. (12) I am surrounded by many troubles--- too many to count! My sins have caught up with me, and I can no longer see; they are more than the hairs of my head, and I have lost my courage. (13) Save me, LORD! Help me now! (14) May those who try to kill me be completely defeated and confused. May those who are happy because of my troubles be turned back and disgraced. (15) May those who make fun of me be dismayed by their defeat. (16) May all who come to you be glad and joyful. May all who are thankful for your salvation always say, "How great is the LORD!"
Psalm 40:6-16 NWT
6 Sacrifice and offering you did not delight in; These ears of mine you opened up. Burnt offering and sin offering you did not ask for. In view of that, I said: "Here I have come, In the roll of the book it being written about me. 8 To do your will, O my God, I have delighted, And your law is within my inward parts. 9 I have told the good news of righteousness in the big congregation. Look! My lips I do not restrain. O Jehovah, you yourself know that well. 10 Your righteousness I have not covered over within my heart. Your faithfulness and your salvation I have declared. I have not hidden your loving-kindness and your trueness in the big congregation." 11 You yourself, O Jehovah, do not restrain your pity from me. Let your loving-kindness and your trueness themselves constantly safeguard me. 12 For calamities encircled me until there was no numbering of them. More errors of mine overtook me than I was able to see; They became more numerous than the hairs of my head, And my own heart left me. 13 Be pleased, O Jehovah, to deliver me. O Jehovah, to my assistance do make haste. 14 May those be ashamed and abashed all together Who are seeking my soul to sweep it away. May those turn back and be humiliated who are delighting in my calamity. 15 Let those stare in amazement in consequence of their shame Who are saying to me: "Aha! Aha!" 16 Let those exult and rejoice in you, All those who are seeking you. Let those say constantly: "May Jehovah be magnified," Those who are loving salvation by you.
Psalms 40:6-16 YLT
(6) Sacrifice and present Thou hast not desired, Ears Thou hast prepared for me, Burnt and sin-offering Thou hast not asked.
(7) Then said I, `Lo, I have come,' In the roll of the book it is written of me,
(8) To do Thy pleasure, my God, I have delighted, And Thy law is within my heart.
(9) I have proclaimed tidings of righteousness In the great assembly, lo, my lips I restrain not, O Jehovah, Thou hast known.
(10) Thy righteousness I have not concealed In the midst of my heart, Thy faithfulness and Thy salvation I have told, I have not hidden Thy kindness and Thy truth, To the great assembly.
(11) Thou, O Jehovah, restrainest not Thy mercies from me, Thy kindness and Thy truth do continually keep me.
(12) For compassed me have evils innumerable, Overtaken me have mine iniquities, And I have not been able to see; They have been more than the hairs of my head, And my heart hath forsaken me.
(13) Be pleased, O Jehovah, to deliver me, O Jehovah, for my help make haste.
(14) They are ashamed and confounded together, Who are seeking my soul to destroy it, They are turned backward, And are ashamed, who are desiring my evil.
(15) They are desolate because of their shame, Who are saying to me, `Aha, aha.'
(16) All seeking Thee rejoice and are glad in Thee, Those loving Thy salvation say continually, `Jehovah is magnified.'

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
The Translations we quote are:
