Revelation 1:9-19 LITV I, even your brother John, and co-sharer in the affliction, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, came to be [imprisoned] in the island being called Patmos because of [speaking] the Word of God, and because of the witness of Jesus Christ. (10) I came to be in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, (11) saying, I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last; also, What you see, write in a scroll, and send to the seven assemblies [congregations] of Asia: to Ephesus, and to Smyrna, and to Pergamos, and to Thyatira, and to Sardis, and to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea. (12) And I turned to see the voice which spoke with me. (13) And having turned, I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, having been clothed to the feet, and having been girded with a golden girdle at the breasts. (14) And the hairs of His head were white as white wool, as snow, and His eyes as a flame of fire; (15) and His feet like burnished brass having been fired in a furnace; and His voice as a sound of many waters; (16) and having in His right hand seven stars; and a sharp, two-edged sword proceeding out of His mouth, and His face shining as the sun in its power. (17) And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet, as dead. And He put His right hand on me, saying to me, Do not fear. I am the First and the Last, (18) and the Living One; and I became dead; and, behold, I am living forever and ever. Amen. And I have the keys to hell, and of death. (19) Write what things you saw, and what things are, and what things are about to occur after these things.

Revelation 1:9-19 GNB I am John, your brother, and as a follower of Jesus I am your partner in patiently enduring the suffering that comes to those who belong to his Kingdom. I was put on the island of Patmos because I had proclaimed God's word and the truth that Jesus revealed. (10) On the Lord's day the Spirit took control of me, and I heard a loud voice, that sounded like a trumpet, speaking behind me. (11) It said, "Write down what you see, and send the book to the churches [congregations] in these seven cities: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea." (12) I turned around to see who was talking to me, and I saw seven gold lampstands, (13) and among them there was what looked like a human being, wearing a robe that reached to his feet, and a gold band around his chest. (14) His hair was white as wool, or as snow, and his eyes blazed like fire; (15) his feet shone like brass that has been refined and polished, and his voice sounded like a roaring waterfall. (16) He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came out of his mouth. His face was as bright as the midday sun. (17) When I saw him, I fell down at his feet like a dead man. He placed his right hand on me and said, "Don't be afraid! I am the first and the last. (18) I am the living one! I was dead, but now I am alive forever and ever. I have authority over death and the world of the dead. (19) Write, then, the things you see, both the things that are now and the things that will happen afterward.

Revelation 1:9-19 ALT I, John, the [one being] your brother and partner in the affliction and the kingdom and patient endurance in Jesus Christ, came to be in the island, the one being called Patmos, because of the word of God and because of the testimony of Jesus Christ. (10) I came to be in spirit [or, in [the] Spirit] on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a great voice, like a trumpet-blast, (11) saying, "What you see, write in a scroll, and send [it] to the seven assemblies: to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamos and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea." (12) And there I turned around to be seeing the voice which was speaking with me. And having turned around, I saw seven golden lampstands, (13) and in [the] middle of the seven lamp-stands [One] like [the] Son of Humanity [or, a son of humanity], having been clothed with a robe reaching to the feet and having been wrapped around at the chest with a golden belt [or, sash]. (14) Now His head and His hair [were] white like white wool, like snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire. (15) And His feet [were] like fine brass [or, burnished bronze] when it has been refined in a furnace, and His voice like [the] sound of many waters, (16) and having seven stars in His right hand, and a sharp, double-edged sword proceeding out of His mouth, and His face [was] like the sun shining in its might. (17) And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He placed His right [hand] on me, saying, "Stop being afraid! I am the First and the Last, (18) and the living One. And I became dead. And look! I am living into the ages of the ages [fig., forever and ever]. Amen! And I have the keys of death and of the realm of the dead [Gr., hades]. (19) "Therefore, write what [things] you saw, and what [things] are, and what [things] are about to be coming after these [things].

Revelation 1:9-19 NWT 9 I John, YOUR brother and a sharer with YOU in the tribulation and kingdom and endurance in company with Jesus, came to be in the isle that is called Pat´mos for speaking about God and bearing witness to Jesus. 10 By inspiration I came to be in the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a strong voice like that of a trumpet, 11 saying: “What you see write in a scroll and send it to the seven congregations, in Eph´e·sus and in Smyr´na and in Per´ga·mum and in Thy·a·ti´ra and in Sar´dis and in Philadelphia and in La·o·di·ce´a.” 12 And I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me, and, having turned, I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and in the midst of the lampstands someone like a son of man, clothed with a garment that reached down to the feet, and girded at the breasts with a golden girdle. 14 Moreover, his head and his hair were white as white wool, as snow, and his eyes as a fiery flame; 15 and his feet were like fine copper when glowing in a furnace; and his voice was as the sound of many waters. 16 And he had in his right hand seven stars, and out of his mouth a sharp, long two-edged sword was protruding, and his countenance was as the sun when it shines in its power. 17 And when I saw him, I fell as dead at his feet. You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
